Beste UGent’er

Zoals jullie weten vinden tijdens het tweede semester aan de Universiteit Gent geen lesactiviteiten met fysieke aanwezigheid van studenten en lesgevers meer plaats. De onzekere situatie waarin de coronacrisis ons brengt én de wens van studenten en lesgevers om zo snel mogelijk duidelijkheid te krijgen over het verdere verloop van het academiejaar, zorgen ervoor dat het noodzakelijk is om ook onze evaluatieactiviteiten aan te passen.

We namen enkele belangrijke beslissingen in verband met de verdere organisatie van het academiejaar aan de UGent. De aangepaste academische kalender voor het tweede semester van 2019-2020 heeft als uitgangspunt dat on campus examens mogelijk zijn vanaf 1 juni. Er wordt een volledig nieuwe examenplanning uitgewerkt, waarbij social distancing in alle examensituaties wordt gegarandeerd.

Andere beslissingen gaan onder meer over de concrete organisatie van de bachelor- en masteropleidingen, over de planning van evaluaties en over kwaliteitszorg, ondersteuning en begeleiding.

Zo’n 10 dagen geleden werd telewerken de norm. We verlieten onze vertrouwde auditoria om onderwijs op afstand te organiseren of te volgen.

Het blijft bevreemdend om de lege auditoria te zien en de stilte in de straten te voelen. Maar het doet goed om elke dag te zien en te horen hoe de UGent-gemeenschap online wél leeft: er zijn de Bongo lessen, de online contacten, formele en minder formele. Er is creativiteit én samenhorigheid. Jazeker, er is bij momenten frustratie. Maar er is bij momenten ook humor.

Ik hoop jullie gauw opnieuw terug te zien. Van dichtbij. In Gent, Kortrijk, Oostende, Brugge, op onze campus in Zuid-Korea of elders.

Dear student

As you know, during the second semester at Ghent University, there will no longer be any teaching activities with the physical presence of students and lecturers. The uncertain situation of the corona crisis and the wish of students and teachers to get clarity about the further course of the academic year as soon as possible, make it necessary to adapt our evaluation activities as well.

We took some important decisions regarding the further organisation of the academic year at Ghent University. The adapted academic calendar for the second semester of 2019-2020 is based on the assumption that on-campus examinations will be possible as of June 1. A completely new exam schedule will be worked out, guaranteeing social distancing in all exam situations.

Other decisions include the concrete organisation of the Bachelor's and Master's programmes, the planning of evaluations and quality assurance, support and guidance.

About 10 days ago teleworking became the norm. We left our auditoriums to organise or follow education at a distance.

It remains strange to see the empty auditoriums and to feel the silence in the streets. But it's good to see and hear every day how the Ghent University community does live online: there are the Bongo lessons, the online contacts, formal and less formal. There is creativity and togetherness. Yes, there is frustration at times. But there is also humour at times.
